The Capstone Project is a 3 unit course designed to be the culmination of the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies. In this course, students apply the knowledge obtained through their General Education, Core Coursework, and Program of Study to a project completed with a faculty advisor. Students complete their Capstones Projects during one of their last two semesters prior to graduation from CSU Channel Islands.
Two types of capstone projects are possible: Faculty-initiated and Student-initiated. Students enroll in Faculty-initiated Capstones like normal classes except that some may require consent of the instructor.
Student-initiated Capstone Projects require much more preparation - at least one semester prior to the proposed semester in which the project is to be completed. A pre-proposal form must be submitted which includes the written agreement by a faculty advisor that they approve the project and are willing to supervise the Capstone. All Student-initiated Capstone Projects must be finally approved by the Chair of Liberal Studies.
